From Enquiry to Installation: How We Take Your Timber Project From Design to Delivery

Trusses on the truck

If you’ve never worked with a structural timber specialist before, it’s easy to assume it’s a simple case of “order the beams, wait for them to turn up.” In reality, getting roof trusses, Glulam beams, or floor joists right – so they arrive on time, fit first time, and meet building regulations – depends on what happens long before anything is cut.

Here’s how the process actually works at Dunscar, and why getting involved early makes all the difference.

1. Early Engagement Saves You Time Later

The single biggest factor in avoiding delays on-site is bringing us in early. Structural timber — trusses in particular — needs to be designed around your specific building, not picked off a shelf. That means we need accurate drawings, loading information, and a clear picture of your timeline before manufacturing can start.

Projects that come to us at planning stage, rather than once foundations are already going in, almost always run smoother. It gives our team time to design properly, order materials, and slot your job into production without rushing — and rushing is where mistakes happen.

2. Design and Engineering, Done In-House

Once we have your project details, our team designs the components specific to your build — whether that’s a standard truss layout, a run of glulam beams, or something more bespoke like curved sections or feature trusses for an exposed, open-plan space.

Because design and manufacture both happen under our own roof in Bolton, there’s no handoff between a design office and a separate factory. The people specifying the components are the same people who understand how they’ll actually be produced, which keeps designs realistic and manufacturable rather than something that looks fine on paper but causes problems on the shop floor.

3. Manufacturing With Traceable, Certified Timber

All our timber is sourced from FSC and PEFC-certified suppliers, and production runs under ISO 9001 quality management, with our products meeting UKCA, CE, and TRA accreditation requirements. That’s not just box-ticking — it means every batch that leaves our workshop is traceable, consistent, and built to the standard your building control officer or architect expects to see.

Manufacturing to order, rather than holding large volumes of stock, also means components are always current — no timber sitting in a yard for months losing quality before it reaches you.

4. Delivery, Handled by People Who Know the Product

Getting large structural components to site intact is its own challenge. We deliver using our own fleet of specialist vehicles, built for carrying items like roof trusses safely, and driven by our own experienced staff — not a third-party courier who’s never handled a truss before.

We deliver across the UK, and because our drivers and installation team know our products inside out, there’s no guesswork about how something should be handled or unloaded once it arrives.

Overall

The projects that go most smoothly are the ones where we’re involved from the planning stage, not brought in as an afterthought once other trades are already booked. If you’ve got a self-build, extension, barn conversion, or commercial project on the horizon, get in touch early — even before drawings are finalised — and we’ll help you plan the timber elements properly from the start.
