Curved Glulam Beam for Sandbanks Visitor Centre, Dorset

Project Overview

  • Location: Sandbanks, Dorset
  • Project Type: Visitor Centre
  • Scope: Design, manufacture & supply
  • Product: Curved glulam beam
  • Material: Structural glued laminated timber

Overview

We recently manufactured and supplied a bespoke glulam beam for a new visitor centre at Sandbanks, Dorset, as part of the wider Brownsea Island jetty restoration project.

This project required a high-quality structural timber solution capable of performing in a coastal environment while also delivering a clean, architectural finish.

Curved Beam

The Challenge

The project required a large curved glulam beam as a key structural element within the visitor centre.

Its exposed coastal location demanded durability and long-term performance, while the curved design required precise manufacturing to ensure accurate installation.

Our Solution

We designed and manufactured a bespoke curved glulam beam tailored to the project requirements.

Using advanced timber engineering techniques, we achieved the required radius while maintaining structural strength and a high-quality finish. The beam was produced in-house and delivered safely to site, ready for installation.

Why Glulam?

Glulam beams are ideal for projects like this due to their strength, durability, and long-span structural performance.

They offer excellent performance in exposed environments while providing a natural, high-quality architectural finish.
